The Virginia Beach Carvers Club was formed in 1993. Bob Radcliffe, a full-time carver, had the idea that getting together with other Carvers would be a good way to share carving skills and offer a nice opportunity for a little socializing. He talked to Leroy Cox who immediately offered his large shop as a meeting place. They spread the word among carving friends, and the Club was started. The original officers were: Leroy Cox, President: Robert Radcliffe, Vice President and Treasurer: Ed Smith, Secretary:
What Do We Do?...... The Club brings together Carvers with skill levels from beginners to long-time Carvers, some with instructor experience. Everyone can learn something from anyone. An experience Carver may see how another Carver does a certain detail. Experienced Carvers love to share their skills, so this Club is a good place to get started. We invite new Carvers to come join the club and get advice from the experience Carvers.
What Are The Advantages?...... The Club can introduce you to wood carving resources and references: books and magazines covering all aspects of wood carving, getting on carving supply mailing lists, previewing a variety of knives and more sophisticated tools owned by some of the members, becoming acquainted with different types of wood, finding out the schedules of various carving shows, whether to observe or to enter competition, and meeting some of the championship carvers of these shows. Mostly you will enjoy the company of people who share the joy of wood carving.
Time: 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Dues: $2.00 each meeting.
